NEW DELHI (Diya TV ) — India and China held their 25th round of talks on the disputed boundary Tuesday as both sides sought to strengthen peace along their border and build on improving ties. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi led the high-level meeting.

India and China have worked to ease tensions since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. However, the boundary dispute remains unresolved. Meanwhile, both countries face a key diplomatic moment ahead of the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Sept. 12 and 13.

Doval said stable border conditions have helped improve relations during the past year. He also pointed to guidance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“We meet in keeping with the guidance of our leaders,” Doval said. He referred to meetings between Modi and Xi in Kazan in 2024 and Tianjin last year.

Doval said India and China need to protect the progress made along the border. He noted that both sides have held detailed discussions on ways to maintain peace and stability.

The two countries still disagree over several areas, including Arunachal Pradesh. China claims the Indian state and refers to it as South Tibet.

Doval also highlighted the return of some cross-border activities. The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra resumed through Nathu La. India and China also restarted traditional border trade through all three passes.

Wang Yi said India and China should increase communication and build mutual trust. He also urged both sides to remove obstacles that could slow progress.

Wang said the relationship now carries importance beyond the two countries. He called for India and China to act as good neighbors and partners.

He also said both sides should continue discussions on the boundary issue while giving fresh momentum to bilateral ties. Wang described his talks with Doval as candid and detailed. He expressed hope that the meeting would produce new areas of agreement.

The talks also come weeks before the BRICS summit in New Delhi. The meeting will take place Sept. 12 and 13.

Xi is widely expected to attend the summit, although Beijing has not officially confirmed his participation.

The Galwan Valley clash in 2020 led to a long military standoff in eastern Ladakh.

Since then, both countries have taken steps to reduce tensions. They have also used diplomatic and military channels to manage differences along the Line of Actual Control.
