GREENVILLE, S.C. (Diya TV) — The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has ruled that actress Hayden Panettiere died from an accidental overdose involving fentanyl and other substances after emergency responders found her in cardiac arrest at a Greenville residence in August.

The office identified the cause as the combined toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine. An autopsy found no injuries that contributed to her death.

Emergency crews attempted to resuscitate Panettiere, but she died at the scene. She had been staying temporarily at the residence, according to the coroner’s initial statement.

Greenville police said their investigation remains active despite the coroner’s ruling. Drug Enforcement Administration is examining where the fentanyl originated, citing sources familiar with the investigation.

An investigative report said authorities found blue pressed pills and a straw inside a prescription bottle labeled as Adderall. A detective reported that both tested positive for fentanyl. The report does not establish who supplied the drugs.

Panettiere began acting as a child and became widely known for her roles in “Heroes” and “Nashville.” Her credits also included “Remember the Titans” and the “Scream” franchise. She released her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” earlier this year, discussing childhood fame and addiction.

Her mother, Lesley Vogel, said Panettiere had spoken openly about addiction and repeatedly sought treatment. Vogel called for investigators to establish who supplied the drugs involved in her daughter’s death.

Panettiere leaves behind her daughter, Kaya, whom she shared with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko has petitioned to protect the actress’s estate on their daughter’s behalf, according to court documents.
