FREMONT, Calif. (Diya TV) — Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed Fremont technology executive Ajay Bhutoria as a public member of California’s Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

Newsom announced the appointment Wednesday. The position does not require state Senate confirmation, according to the governor’s announcement cited by the Press Trust of India.

The board operates under the California Department of Consumer Affairs and regulates licensing and professional practice in the fields it oversees. Its responsibilities include establishing qualifications and enforcing standards designed to protect public health, safety and property.

Bhutoria has led Global Business Consulting Services as its founder and principal since 2006. His work includes enterprise systems, digital transformation and human resources technology for businesses and public-sector organizations.

He said he intends to draw on his experience with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to help modernize the board’s processes.

“I am deeply honoured by Governor Gavin Newsom’s trust and confidence in appointing me to this important state board,” Bhutoria said in a statement.

Bhutoria previously served on President Joe Biden’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. He holds a chemical engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, according to the governor’s office.
