STANFORD, Calif. (Diya TV) — The Hoover Institution today announced that it has appointed former Prime Minister of Great Britain Rishi Sunak to the position of William C. Edwards Distinguished Visiting Fellow. He will work on compelling issues such as trans-Atlantic relations, transnational security problems, economic policy, and technology innovation.
In his new role, Sunak will bring a wealth of global experience to the prestigious institution, which has a long history of shaping policy on a variety of issues. Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State and Hoover Institution director, praised Sunak’s background. “As former prime minister, Rishi Sunak holds extensive policy and global experience that will enrich our fellowship,” Rice said in a statement. “We look forward to the impact of his work on the many challenges facing democracies and the world.”
Sunak served as the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 2022 to 2024, being the first British Asian to occupy the position. Before that, he was Chancellor of the Exchequer and occupied several other senior government positions. Jonathan Levin, President of Stanford University, was elated to see Sunak back at the institution, with deep expertise in geopolitical and economic issues.
“I’m delighted to be joining the Hoover Institution,” Sunak said. “I look forward to contributing to the research of the Hoover Institution as it works to advance economic prosperity and international security.”
Before his political career, Sunak worked in business and finance, cofounding an investment firm and helping to grow small British companies. He is an alumnus of Stanford, where he earned an MBA as a Fulbright Scholar.
