TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Diya TV) — State Representative Hillary Cassel announced her departure from the Democratic Party on Friday, declaring her intention to join the Republican Conference in the Florida House of Representatives. Cassel, who represents parts of Broward County and was first elected in 2022, cited concerns about the Democratic Party’s stance on Israel and its alignment with progressive voices.
In a statement shared on X, Cassel expressed her dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party’s approach to key issues, particularly its response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. “As a proud Jewish woman, I have been increasingly troubled by the Democratic Party’s failure to unequivocally support Israel and its willingness to tolerate extreme progressive voices that justify or condone acts of terrorism,” she wrote.
Cassel also criticized the party for what she described as its disconnect from everyday Floridians. “I can no longer remain in a party that doesn’t represent my values,” she said. While acknowledging she may not agree with every Republican stance, Cassel praised the Republican Conference for fostering collaboration and empowering its members.
Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez welcomed Cassel to the Republican fold, emphasizing the party’s commitment to unity and practical governance.
