OSLO (Diya TV) — An explosion hit the U.S. Embassy in Oslo early Sunday, causing minor damage and prompting a large police response.
Norwegian police said the blast happened around 1 a.m. local time at the entrance to the embassy’s consular section. Police confirmed that no one was injured.
Police spokesperson Mikael Dellemyr told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that investigators had confirmed the explosion struck the embassy itself. Eyewitnesses told local media they heard a loud blast and saw smoke rising from the compound soon after.
Investigators have not said what caused the explosion. They also have not identified any suspect or motive.
Police said they remained in contact with embassy officials as the investigation continued. Authorities also searched the area for more hazards and worked to secure the site.
Local outlet VG reported that officers sealed off nearby streets and sent bomb technicians, forensic teams, dogs, drones, and a helicopter to the scene. The heavy response showed how seriously officials were treating the blast.
The U.S. Embassy in Oslo did not immediately comment outside regular business hours. The U.S. State Department also did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The explosion comes during a tense moment for U.S. facilities abroad. But Norwegian authorities have not linked the Oslo blast to any broader regional conflict or campaign.
As of the latest updates, police had not said whether an explosive device caused the damage or whether the embassy was deliberately targeted. For now, the investigation remains active.
