SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, accusing them of prioritizing profits over their original mission of developing artificial intelligence (AI) for the betterment of humanity. The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, marks the culmination of Musk’s longstanding concerns about the direction of the company he co-founded.

Musk alleges a breach of contract, asserting that Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman strayed from the initial vision of creating an open-source, non-profit AI organization. Instead, Musk claims that OpenAI has shifted its focus towards commercial interests, especially evident through its partnership with Microsoft.

The lawsuit outlines the genesis of OpenAI, where Musk, Altman, and Brockman agreed to work on artificial general intelligence (AGI) with the aim of benefiting humanity. However, Musk asserts that OpenAI veered off course by releasing GPT-4, its most powerful language model, as essentially a Microsoft product, contrary to the original agreement.

In his legal action, Musk seeks a court ruling to compel OpenAI to make its research and technology accessible to the public, preventing the exploitation of assets like GPT-4 for financial gain. Furthermore, Musk aims to classify GPT-4 and a new technology called Q* as AGI, thereby excluding them from Microsoft’s license to OpenAI.

The lawsuit comes amidst broader scrutiny of OpenAI’s operations, including its partnership with Microsoft and allegations of abandoning its non-profit mission. Musk’s legal challenge underscores the ongoing debate within the AI community regarding the ethical implications and control of advanced AI technologies.
