SCHAUMBERG, IL (Diya TV) – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has called on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to engage with the interim government of Bangladesh to address recent outbreaks of violence, including targeted attacks against Hindus. In a letter sent out yesterday, Krishnamoorthi expressed deep concern over the escalating situation following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the subsequent swearing-in of Muhammad Yunus as Chief Adviser for the interim government.

The congressman highlighted the urgent need for U.S. involvement to quell the violence and hold those responsible accountable. Citing reports from major media outlets such as The New York Times, Times of India, BBC, and Reuters, Krishnamoorthi detailed the severity of the attacks, noting that at least 60 people have been killed in Dhaka and other regions. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council reported that violence targeting Hindus has erupted in 45 out of the country’s 64 districts.

This surge in violence is not an isolated incident. Krishnamoorthi pointed to previous instances of anti-Hindu riots, such as those in 2021, 2017, and 2013, which have resulted in significant loss of life, destruction of property, and ongoing fears among minority communities.

Krishnamoorthi emphasized that the instability fueled by religious intolerance in Bangladesh poses a threat not only to the region but also to U.S. interests and its allies. He urged Secretary Blinken to leverage U.S. influence to help the interim government of Bangladesh bring an end to the violence and ensure justice for the victims.

Political figures such as Congressmen Rich McCormick, Shri Thanedar, and Ro Khanna have joined Krishnamoorthi in calling for the national government to work with Bangladesh to resolve the violence.
