NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — OpenAI has introduced a new subscription tier called ChatGPT Go in India, aiming to bring advanced AI tools to more users at an affordable price. The plan costs Rs. 399 per month (less than $5) and offers a major upgrade over the free version of ChatGPT.
The new tier focuses on affordability and accessibility for Indian users. OpenAI priced ChatGPT Go at Rs. 399 (less than $5), which makes it significantly cheaper than the company’s Plus plan at Rs. 1,999 (less than $25) and the Pro plan at Rs. 19,999 (about $230). The plan sits between the free and premium tiers, creating more choices for users across the country.
To make payments simple, OpenAI enabled UPI support for all transactions. Prices are displayed directly in Indian rupees, allowing users to pay without conversion hassles or extra fees.
ChatGPT Go provides benefits for those who rely on the AI tool for work, study, or personal use. The plan includes:
- 10 times higher message limits compared with the free plan.
- 10 times more image generations, giving users greater creative freedom.
- 10 times more file uploads, making it easier to share and process documents.
- Double the memory, which helps the AI remember more information across conversations.
These upgrades ensure users can get more done with fewer restrictions, whether they are professionals, students, or casual users.
India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets for artificial intelligence adoption. With millions of students, freelancers, and professionals turning to AI tools, the demand for cost-effective plans is increasing. By offering ChatGPT Go at a lower rate, OpenAI is targeting a wide audience that seeks value without losing access to advanced features.
Nick Turley, an OpenAI executive, shared on X that the launch aims to make ChatGPT more affordable for Indian users. He added that the company will collect feedback from India before deciding whether to expand the Go plan to other countries.
With the rollout of ChatGPT Go, OpenAI now offers four subscription tiers in India. The free plan remains available to all users, while the Go tier fills the gap for those who want more power but cannot afford the higher-tier options. Plus and Pro remain focused on professionals and enterprises who require top-tier access and performance.
India’s digital economy continues to grow rapidly, driven by strong mobile adoption, affordable data, and a young, tech-savvy population. OpenAI’s decision to launch ChatGPT Go in India first highlights the country’s importance in the global AI market.
The rollout also comes at a time when competition in the AI space is intensifying. Several companies are offering chatbots and AI tools to capture India’s expanding digital audience.
The move could shape how AI subscriptions evolve in other markets. If successful, ChatGPT Go may become a model for future launches in countries where affordability and accessibility are key.
For now, Indian users have a new way to experience AI at scale without the premium price tag.
