SUGAR LAND, Texas (Diya TV) — A major investment in community health care is set to transform access to primary care in Sugar Land after local philanthropists Brij and Sunita Agrawal donated $5.5 million to St. Luke’s Health-Sugar Land Hospital.
CommonSpirit Health Philanthropy announced the gift and described it as the largest single donation in the hospital’s history. Hospital leaders said the funding will help expand clinical services and establish a new Primary Care Community Clinic adjacent to the hospital campus.
The donation comes as Sugar Land and the surrounding Greater Houston region continue to experience rapid population growth. Health officials say the new clinic will improve access to preventive care and help residents manage chronic health conditions before they require emergency treatment.
Hospital officials said the $5.5 million contribution will support long-term improvements in patient care. The funding will strengthen existing medical services while creating a dedicated primary care facility designed to serve the community’s growing needs.
The new Primary Care Community Clinic will provide residents with easier access to routine medical care, wellness screenings, and chronic disease management. Health leaders believe the clinic will reduce unnecessary emergency room visits by giving patients a reliable source of ongoing care.
In recognition of the Agrawals’ contribution, St. Luke’s Health-Sugar Land Hospital renamed its main patient tower and pavilion the Agrawal Family Patient Tower and Pavilion. Hospital officials said the naming honors the family’s commitment to improving health care services in the region.
Health experts often emphasize the importance of primary care in improving overall health outcomes. Preventive care allows doctors to identify health concerns early and develop treatment plans before conditions become severe.
The planned clinic will focus on providing consistent medical support for patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. It will also offer preventive services that encourage healthier lifestyles and regular medical checkups.
Officials said the clinic will serve as a key resource for residents seeking affordable and accessible health care close to home. As the Sugar Land area continues to grow, community leaders expect demand for primary care services to increase. The new facility aims to meet that demand while easing pressure on hospital emergency departments.
The latest donation adds to the Agrawal family’s history of philanthropy across the Houston area. Brij Agrawal was born in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh and moved to the Houston region as a teenager. He graduated from the University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering in 1988 before building a successful business career.
Today, he serves as president and chief executive officer of VKC Group, a company that operates more than 150 restaurants across Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico. The Agrawals have supported several educational and medical initiatives over the years. They previously donated $1 million to the University of Houston at Sugar Land. That contribution helped fund advanced manufacturing research and state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.
The university later named its ground-floor auditorium in honor of the family. The couple has also provided financial support for medical programs at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
Sunita Agrawal said the family’s latest contribution reflects their gratitude toward the community that helped them achieve personal and professional success.“We have been blessed by this community and wanted to give back in a meaningful way,” she told PTI.
Community leaders praised the donation and said it will create lasting benefits for residents. They noted that stronger primary care services can improve public health, lower health care costs, and enhance quality of life for families across the region.
