LOS ANGELES  (Diya TV) — Brandon Clarke, a seven-year NBA veteran and forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, has died at the age of 29, according to law enforcement officials.

Authorities said the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting a medical emergency shortly after 5 p.m. Monday at a home in Los Angeles. Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced Clarke dead.

Investigators found drug paraphernalia inside the home. Officials are now investigating the incident as a possible overdose. Authorities have not confirmed an official cause of death. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of Clarke’s death.

The Grizzlies released a statement Tuesday expressing grief over Clarke’s sudden death.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,” the team said. “Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten.”

The team also extended condolences to Clarke’s family and loved ones. Clarke spent his entire NBA career with Memphis after the franchise selected him with the 21st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He quickly became known for his athleticism, energy, and defensive play.

During his rookie season, Clarke earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in 2020. Fans and analysts praised his hustle and efficiency on both ends of the court. Over seven NBA seasons, Clarke averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in 309 career games. He became a reliable role player and a respected presence in the Grizzlies locker room.

Clarke dealt with several injuries during the later years of his career. This past season, he appeared in only two games in December because of ongoing health setbacks.

Despite the injuries, teammates and coaches often spoke about his work ethic and positive attitude. Clarke remained popular among fans in Memphis for his community involvement and team-first mentality. His death has shocked the NBA community and sparked an outpouring of tributes on social media from players, fans, and former teammates.

Clarke’s death came weeks after authorities in Arkansas arrested him on charges that included speeding and possession of a controlled substance, according to NBC News. Officials have not said whether the recent arrest is connected to the ongoing death investigation. Law enforcement agencies continue to gather evidence as investigators wait for toxicology results and findings from the autopsy report.

Born in Canada, Clarke rose to national prominence during his college basketball career before entering the NBA. His high-energy style and ability to impact games without dominating the ball helped him carve out a long professional career.

In Memphis, Clarke became part of a young core that helped turn the Grizzlies into a playoff contender in the Western Conference. Fans admired his hustle plays, rebounding, and ability to provide momentum off the bench.

Many supporters also remember Clarke for his work in the Memphis community. He participated in charity events, youth programs, and outreach activities throughout his time with the organization.

The news of Clarke’s death marks another tragic loss for the sports world and has renewed conversations about mental health, substance abuse, and the pressures professional athletes face during and after their careers.

Funeral arrangements and memorial details have not yet been announced by Clarke’s family. Clarke is survived by family members, close friends, former teammates, and fans across the basketball world who continue to mourn his sudden passing.
