ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. (Diya TV) — BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha joined communities across the United States to celebrate America250, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The nationwide observance focused on faith, service, gratitude, civic pride, and unity. Through events held at BAPS mandirs across the country, the Hindu organization highlighted shared American values while encouraging volunteerism and community engagement.
BAPS partnered with America250.org, the national nonpartisan initiative leading the country’s semiquincentennial celebration. As a result, the organization became part of a nationwide effort that encourages Americans to reflect on the nation’s history and look toward its future.
For many Indian and South Asian Americans, the anniversary carried special meaning. The celebration recognized the freedoms and opportunities that have allowed immigrant families to preserve their cultural traditions while building successful lives in the United States. Over the decades, the diaspora has contributed to medicine, education, technology, business, public service, and the arts. Their achievements continue to strengthen communities across the country.
BAPS has served communities in the United States for more than 50 years. Since launching its activities in the early 1970s, the organization has expanded its presence through mandirs, cultural programs, and community outreach. At the same time, it has promoted civic participation and welcomed people from every background.
During the America250 observance, BAPS mandirs across the nation hosted celebrations that honored both faith and country. Many temples displayed red, white, and blue lighting. Families gathered for patriotic events, while volunteers welcomed visitors and encouraged conversations about unity, service, and respect. These activities also reflected the values that connect Americans from different cultures and beliefs.
In Robbinsville, New Jersey, BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham hosted a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by veterans, devotees, and residents. Participants waved American flags and expressed gratitude for the nation’s freedoms. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the local BAPS mandir held a flag-raising ceremony with veterans and welcomed guests to learn more about Hindu culture, community service, and shared values.
Likewise, celebrations in Houston brought together local leaders and residents. Four mayors from Sugar Land, Missouri City, Pearland, and Stafford joined the gathering as the mandir displayed patriotic lighting. The event also featured the singing of the U.S. national anthem, creating a moment of reflection and community pride.
Many events also emphasized religious freedom, mutual respect, and public service. Through open houses, interfaith discussions, and volunteer activities, participants explored how America’s founding ideals continue to support diverse communities. Families reflected on the ability to practice their faith freely, raise children,n and contribute to society while preserving their cultural heritage.
A meaningful part of the celebration centered on a special letter from His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj. In his message, he offered prayers for the United States on its 250th anniversary.
