NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML Holding NV is exploring partnerships in India to support the country’s push for a self-reliant chip industry. The company sees opportunities in collaborating with Indian firms as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi accelerates efforts to reduce dependence on imported semiconductors.
At the Semicon India 2025 summit in New Delhi, ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet emphasized the company’s dedication to India’s semiconductor ambitions. He highlighted ASML’s advanced lithography solutions, which are crucial for producing high-performance chips used in smartphones, medical devices, and artificial intelligence applications. Fouquet expressed ASML’s readiness to support India through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and talent development.
India’s semiconductor market is projected to surpass USD 55 billion by 2026 and reach USD 100 billion by 2030, driven by strong demand in smartphones, automotive, and 5G Internet of Things (IoT) sectors. The Indian government has approved 10 strategic projects, including high-volume fabrication units and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facilities, to bolster domestic chip production.
While ASML does not have immediate plans for manufacturing or research and development in India, the company is establishing a customer support office to work closely with local customers and ecosystem partners. This approach aims to strengthen ASML’s presence in India and support the country’s semiconductor growth.
ASML’s interest in India comes at a time when geopolitical tensions are affecting semiconductor demand in other regions. The company has faced challenges due to export restrictions and trade tensions, particularly in markets like China. By expanding its footprint in India, ASML aims to diversify its market presence and contribute to the development of a resilient global semiconductor supply chain.
