AUSTIN (Diya TV) — Angela Chao, CEO of Foremost Group and sister-in-law to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, passed away following a car accident on a private ranch near Austin, Texas, according to authorities.

The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office confirmed responding to a potential water rescue at a ranch in Blanco County. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered Angela Chao’s body in a pond on the property. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, she unfortunately succumbed to the incident. The preliminary investigation suggests it was an accident, but further inquiries are ongoing.

Chao, a double Harvard graduate, assumed the role of Foremost’s CEO in 2018. She was married to Jim Breyer, a venture capitalist from Austin who is part owner of the Boston Celtics. With a strong background in the shipping industry, Chao previously served on the board of the Bank of China and as a director of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

The incident unfolded at a private property in Johnson City, prompting an emergency response just after midnight. Despite efforts by emergency personnel, Chao could not be revived. The car she was in was found submerged in a pond, with no initial explanation for how it ended up there.

Chao’s father, James Chao, describes Angela as a trailblazer and an advocate for sustainable business practices. Her legacy extends beyond her role at Foremost, with contributions to various boards including the American Bureau of Shipping Council, Harvard Business School’s Board of Dean’s Advisors, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Elaine Chao, Angela’s sister and McConnell’s wife, served as Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush and as Secretary of Transportation under President Donald Trump.
