ASHBURN, Va. (Diya TV) — In a move that community leaders call unprecedented, the American Hindu Coalition (AHC) has endorsed Junaid Khan, a Pakistani American cybersecurity expert running for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 27. The endorsement marks the first time the right-leaning Hindu advocacy group has supported a candidate of Pakistani origin.

The AHC has long backed Indian American candidates who share its conservative platform. The group promotes “America First” economic policies, religious liberty protections, parental control in education, small-business growth, strong national defense, border security, and stronger U.S.-India ties.

By supporting Khan, the AHC has stepped across South Asia’s long-standing divides. India and Pakistan remain bitter rivals, with tensions flaring after the Pahalgam terror attacks in Kashmir. Hindu advocacy groups in the United States have historically aligned with Indian-origin candidates; the decision to back Khan is highly unusual. In a statement, Srilekha Palle, speaking on behalf of the coalition, praised Khan’s values and experience.

“The American Hindu Coalition stands for a stronger America built on limited government, strong national defense, individual responsibility, and Hindu enlightenment values,” Palle said. “We proudly endorse Junaid Khan because he embodies these principles in action. As a father, cybersecurity expert, and Loudoun resident, he brings discipline, integrity, and real-world expertise, not empty politics.”

The AHC framed the decision as one that reflects its belief in shared conservative values over ethnic or national identities. Leaders said Khan’s commitment to safer streets, stronger schools, and accountable governance reflects the priorities of American Hindus.

Khan has lived in Virginia for more than a decade. A naturalized U.S. citizen, he has built a career as a cybersecurity professional. He is campaigning on themes of “Family First, Faith in America, Law and Order, and Opportunity for All.”

Speaking after the endorsement, Khan expressed gratitude. “The endorsement means so much to me. We share a commitment to service, prosperous communities, and opportunity for all,” he said.

Khan has positioned himself as a candidate who values unity over division. His campaign emphasizes the need for strong communities, public safety, and accountability in government. The District 27 seat is currently held by Democrat Atoosa Reaser. She represents more than 100,000 residents in a district that leans Democratic.

However, the area’s demographics are changing. Northern Virginia continues to see growth in immigrant populations, including Indian and Pakistani Americans. Political analysts say these shifting dynamics could play a key role in the November 4 election.

Khan faces an uphill battle in a blue-leaning district. But with support from Indian American and Hindu American voters, he hopes to gain ground against the incumbent. The endorsement carries symbolic weight beyond state politics. It highlights a new chapter in South Asian American political engagement, one less bound by historical conflicts between India and Pakistan.

Observers say the move underscores how conservative values in the United States can unite communities once divided abroad. The AHC’s decision to back Khan signals a willingness to prioritize domestic policy goals such as border security, education reform, and economic growth over South Asia’s rivalries.

For many voters, the endorsement shows that American politics is shifting. Alliances once defined by ethnicity or nationality are giving way to partnerships based on shared values and vision. Khan’s campaign is now gaining attention across Virginia and within South Asian American circles nationwide. The endorsement by the American Hindu Coalition offers him a platform that could broaden his appeal among conservative voters.

As Election Day approaches, both campaigns are ramping up efforts to mobilize supporters. Reaser’s Democratic base remains strong, but Khan hopes his message of family, faith, and opportunity will resonate with voters seeking change. The November 4 election will determine not just who represents District 27 but also whether a groundbreaking political partnership can translate into electoral success.
