CHANDIGARH, India (Diya TV) — AAP Rajya Sabha member from Punjab, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, has made an urgent plea to Indian authorities to repatriate seven Indian youth, including five from Punjab, currently stranded in Russia. Sahney appealed to Indian Ambassador Pawan Kapoor and Indian Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar for immediate action to assist the distressed individuals.

In addition to reaching out to Indian officials, Sahney has also contacted the Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, and Deputy Chief of Mission Roman Babushkin, urging them to intervene for the swift release of the stranded youth.

Expressing his commitment to aiding the distressed families, Sahney has obtained the active phone numbers of the stranded youth, which he promptly shared with Indian Embassy officials to facilitate direct assistance for their repatriation.

The ordeal began on December 27, 2023, when seven Indian youth, including five from Punjab, inadvertently entered Belarus from Russia without the necessary visas. This misunderstanding led to their apprehension by Russian authorities.

Reportedly coerced by the Russian police into signing an agreement to serve in the Russian Army as helpers for one year, the distressed youth face the threat of imprisonment for up to 10 years for their unauthorized entry into Belarus.
