NEW YORK (Diya TV) — India’s music maestro A.R. Rahman will perform at a gala at the United Nations General Assembly Hall on Aug. 15 which is being organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the U.N.
The concert is being organized as part of the 70th Independence Day celebration of India. It will pay homage to Dr. MS. Subbulakshmi’s birth centenary. A classical music legend of India, the event will also mark the 50th anniversary since she herself performed at the United Nations.
Additionally, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kickoff a 15-day celebration in honor of the 70th year, he will visit revolutionary leader Chandrashekhar Azad’s birthplace in Madhya Pradesh with the government lining up a number of events, including week-long cultural events at Rajpath, for the occasion.
Singers Asha Bhosle and Kumar Sanu will perform as part of the events organized by Modi and the BJP, with shows slated to take place at Jammu and Kashmir.
Modi will attend an event on Aug. 9 at Bhabhra in the tribal-dominated Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh, where Azad was born. Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will go to Mumbai to preside over an event at Kranti Maidan from where Mahatma Gandhi launched Quit India movement in 1942.
