NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — The second phase of Indian general elections is now over, with a greater than 60% voter turnout across 13 Indian states. More than 150 million voters cast their ballots in this phase. The next phase of elections begins on April 23, with the final voting on May 21. Ballots will be counted on May 23.

The Indian Government is setting up of an Indo-Pacific Division in the Ministry of External Affairs. The new division will integrate the Indian Ocean Rim Association, ASEAN region and the Quad to the Indo-Pacific division.

A bipartisan group in Congress reintroduced the U.S.-India Enhanced Cooperation Act, amending into U.S. law to expedited trade and technology sharing with India now that its been designated as a Major Defense Partner.

The Indian American Impact Fund, an emerging political action committee, endorsed California Senator Kamala Harris in her 2020 bid for the White House. In a statement, Harris said the endorsement meant a lot to her, adding in this election “Indian Americans can’t afford to stay on the sidelines.”

With Amazon leaving China behind after struggling against Chinese brands, India will become an even more important focal point for the e-commerce giant. Amazon has already committed $5 billion to building out their business in India.
