WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Sripriya Ranganathan has ended her stint as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., looking back on her time there as “an incredible ride.” In a LinkedIn farewell message, she thanked the professional and personal connections she made and noted cooperative initiatives to build India-U.S. relations.
Over her term, Ranganathan led the way with the launch of major diplomatic endeavors, such as the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) and the Strategic Trade Dialogue. These initiatives looked to deepen collaborations in sectors ranging from renewable energy to semiconductors, as well as defense, working to shape changing bilateral dynamics.
Apart from her diplomatic activities, Ranganathan cherished friendships she forged, especially with the Indian American community. She recognized the community’s open reception and hospitality, saying that their camaraderie and affection were essential to her sojourn in the United States. She also cherished the opportunity to reconnect with extended family members and visit her daughter, who is studying at an American institution.
As she heads to her new position at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Ranganathan was confident that the partnerships and relationships established during her tenure in Washington will keep growing. She spoke about the world being interconnected and hopes to see many of her colleagues and friends again in the future.
Ranganathan’s foreign service career has been more than 25 years long, starting with her joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1994 after obtaining a master’s degree in history from Delhi University. Before her posting in Washington, she was India’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from August 2018 to 2022. She has had long experience in postings in Myanmar, Turkey, and Hong Kong, as well as in different capacities in the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Her resignation symbolizes the end of a defining chapter in the Indian Embassy’s mission to enhance relations with America, her achievements paving the way for sustained collaboration between the two countries.
