WASHINGTON (Diya TV) —
12-year-old Indian American prodigy, Bruhat Soma, hailing from Florida, has not only clinched the title of America’s spelling bee champion, but has also shared his remarkable feat of memorizing 80 percent of the Bhagavad Gita.
In an interview, Soma revealed the secret behind his exceptional memory prowess, attributing it to a program called Pragma. “Pragma taught me the Vishnu Saranamam and the Bhagavad Gita. The Bhagavad Gita comprises 700 slokas, and we were taught a few slokas per class to memorize,” Soma explained. He elaborated on his journey, initially dividing his focus between memorizing the sacred text and his spelling preparations. However, he now aims to complete memorizing the entire Bhagavad Gita, crediting his belief in divine power for his accomplishments.
Delving into his cultural heritage, Soma shared his roots, stating, “In India, I’m from Telangana. I might visit during summer vacations or for my relative’s wedding.” He expressed his excitement about his victory, describing it as a culmination of his year-long hard work, akin to a dream come true.
Bruhat’s triumph resonated deeply with his relatives in India, who fervently supported him throughout his journey. “A lot of my relatives are in India. They’ve sent congratulations and watched the video. It’s exciting to know that all my relatives back in India were supporting me,” he remarked.
Despite the substantial prize money of $50,000, Soma intends to channel it towards a noble cause. “I’ve decided to donate the $50,000 to a good cause, but I haven’t chosen the cause yet. It will be for a good cause,” he affirmed, displaying maturity beyond his years.
Looking towards the future, Bruhat harbors aspirations of becoming a doctor, viewing his championship victory as a stepping stone towards achieving this goal. “I want to be a doctor when I grow up, and this championship will help me get into a good university to study medicine better,” he articulated, highlighting his determination and ambition.
