SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Rishi Sunak asked the Conservative Party members to unite behind the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Liz Truss, minutes after she defeated him to succeed Boris Johnson. Sunak was trying to become the first ever British-Indian Prime Minister. He is expected to stay on as a member of parliament.

The outcome of the Prime Minister’s race is already having a ripple effect on British politics. UK Home Secretary Priti Patel resigned from the Cabinet. She was widely expected not to be included in the top line-up of Prime Minister elect Truss’ top team. Patel’s duties are expected to be handed to Suella Braverman, another British-Indian minister.

The Indian Business Association apologized for including a bulldozer in its Indian Independence Day parade in Edison and Woodbridge townships in New Jersey. The letter acknowledges certain aspects of the Independence Day event offended Indian American minority communities, especially Muslims.
