MUMBAI, Maharashtra, India (Diya TV) — Reliance Industries Limited and Rolls-Royce have announced plans to work together on an indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft program.
The two companies said they intend to build capabilities for the development, manufacturing and delivery of a sovereign engine for the AMCA program. The effort supports India’s broader push to expand domestic defense technology and reduce reliance on overseas suppliers.
The partnership also could create a new center for aerospace and propulsion technology in India. Reliance and Rolls-Royce plan to explore the creation of a dedicated Aero Gas Turbine Complex.
The companies intend to develop the AMCA engine in India. This program aims to produce a new generation of fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
The partnership aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for greater self-reliance in defense manufacturing. India has sought to increase domestic production while building advanced technologies for its armed forces.
Anant Ambani, executive director of Reliance Industries Limited, said the proposed partnership would combine Rolls-Royce’s expertise in advanced propulsion with Reliance’s manufacturing and technology capabilities.
Ambani also said the companies want to create an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India. Such an ecosystem could support future projects beyond the AMCA program. It could also help India become more competitive in advanced propulsion technology.
Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO of Rolls-Royce plc, welcomed the opportunity to work with Reliance. He said the partnership would combine Rolls-Royce’s expertise in advanced engineering and power with Reliance’s capabilities.
Erginbilgic described the proposed collaboration as an important step toward building a stronger aerospace industry in India. The companies expect the partnership to support a more self-reliant aerospace ecosystem.
