MOSCOW (Diya TV) — Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India in early 2025, the Kremlin confirmed, accepting an invitation extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The announcement comes as the two nations seek to strengthen their strategic partnership amid evolving global challenges.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov announced the planned visit during a press briefing, noting that it follows discussions between the two leaders. “President Putin received an official invitation from Prime Minister Modi, and it was accepted,” Ushakov said.

The visit underlines the long-term partnership between Moscow and New Delhi, which is based on decades of cooperation in defense, energy, and trade. Russia has been a significant supplier of military equipment to India and a key partner in nuclear energy projects.

Recent times have seen the relations grow increasingly complicated, especially in view of the Russia-Ukraine war and India’s balancing between the West and Moscow. This notwithstanding, both sides continue to talk regularly, with both sounding conciliatory notes to protect mutual interests.

Putin’s visit is expected to include high-level talks intended to strengthen economic ties and to discuss global and regional security issues. The two leaders are likely to discuss opportunities for collaboration in energy, technology, and trade.

The visit comes amid a reshaped geopolitical climate. India is actively engaging in the world and its other global powers using platforms like the G20, the Quad, and the BRICS group; Russia, while a prime member, happens to hold an important rank in Moscow.

In this aspect, the analysts believe that it will be highly crucial that the visit further cements Moscow’s tie with New Delhi amid several challenges during a multipolar world.

In reality, India and Russia maintain their long history of friendly bilateral relations, where at one point Russia would often side with New Delhi on important issues; especially in the United Nations Security Council. Trade levels still have room for considerable enhancement. Discussions during this visit are likely to center upon greater trade volumes and how this can be done between more diversified economic partners.

Putin’s last visit to India was in December 2021 for the annual India-Russia summit. Modi and Putin have since held several virtual and in-person meetings to reiterate their personal chemistry.  As the details of the 2025 visit continue to be unveiled, it is an important event on both countries’ calendars that shows the common vision between the two for cooperation and peace in an increasingly divided world.
