ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (Diya TV) — A senior Pakistani journalist has rejected claims that an assassination attempt targeted Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir during high-level talks in Switzerland, calling the report false and unsupported by facts.
The response came after Brazilian independent journalist Pepe Escobar claimed that Pakistani military intelligence had uncovered an alleged plot by Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, to assassinate Munir during diplomatic meetings on June 21 in Switzerland. Escobar made the claim during an interview with commentator Mario Nawfal. However, neither Pakistani nor Israeli authorities have confirmed the allegation.
Now, veteran Pakistani journalist Kamran Khan has publicly dismissed the report. He cited a senior Pakistani security official who described the claim as completely baseless.
In a post on X, Khan quoted the official as saying, “Absolutely rubbish and complete nonsense. Nothing of this sort occurred.” The statement directly challenged the growing rumors that circulated on social media following Escobar’s remarks.
According to Khan, the security official said the Pakistani delegation’s visit to Switzerland proceeded without any disruption. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir both attended the meetings as planned. Furthermore, the official said no security concerns emerged at any stage of the visit.
The official also stated that Swiss and U.S. security teams never raised any warnings during the delegation’s stay. As a result, authorities did not implement any emergency measures or special security responses.
Khan added that Pakistan’s security arrangements remained fully operational throughout the visit. The official reportedly stressed that officials maintained standard procedures from the delegation’s arrival until it departed from Lucerne.
Meanwhile, the assassination claim gained attention online after Escobar discussed it during his interview. He alleged that Pakistani military intelligence intercepted a Mossad plan targeting Munir. He further claimed that Pakistan then issued a strong warning to Israel.
Despite the serious nature of the allegation, no government agency has released evidence supporting the claim. In addition, no public statements from Israeli officials have addressed the accusation.
The absence of official confirmation has led many observers to question the credibility of the report. Security experts often note that major threats against senior military leaders typically trigger visible security alerts or official responses. However, no such developments occurred during or after the June 21 meetings.
Moreover, Khan’s comments reflect the position of Pakistani security officials who insist that the visit to Switzerland unfolded normally. His statement also represents one of the clearest public denials issued since the rumor began circulating.
The controversy highlights the growing influence of social media in spreading unverified claims involving national security and international relations. Reports concerning intelligence agencies and military officials often attract significant public attention. Nevertheless, officials and analysts frequently urge caution when evaluating such allegations.
At the same time, Pakistan and Israel do not maintain formal diplomatic relations. Therefore, claims involving intelligence operations between the two countries often generate strong reactions and widespread speculation. Even so, governments usually require substantial evidence before acknowledging reports of covert activities.
