NEW YORK (Diya TV) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams faces renewed scrutiny as detailed allegations of sexual assault have emerged from Lorna Beach-Mathura, a former colleague from his time as a transit cop.

In a complaint filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Beach-Mathura alleges that Adams, then a prominent member of the NYPD Guardians Association, propositioned her for sexual favors in exchange for career advice back in 1993. The complaint, filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, provides explicit details of the alleged encounter, stating that Adams drove Beach-Mathura to a remote lot, where he demanded a sex act and exposed himself.

The lawsuit, seeking $5 million in damages, accuses Adams of using his position of authority to coerce Beach-Mathura into compliance. It further claims that the incident led to her being laid off and relocating to Florida. Despite fears of retaliation, Beach-Mathura confided in others about the assault in the years following the incident.

Adams, through his corporation counsel Sylvia Hinds-Radix, vehemently denies the allegations, labeling them as “outrageous” and expressing confidence in vindication in court. Hinds-Radix also dismissed the notion that Adams had any sway over promotions within the NYPD, citing his history of advocating against racism within the department.

The lawsuit not only targets Adams but also names the city, the NYPD, and the Guardians Association as defendants, alleging gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation.

While Beach-Mathura’s attorney, Megan Goddard, did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the filing marks a significant escalation in the controversy surrounding Adams. The detailed nature of the allegations and the request for a jury trial suggest a protracted legal battle ahead, with potential political ramifications for the mayor.

New York Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, a vocal advocate for women’s rights, expressed confidence in the safeguards of the justice system, acknowledging that while there are often frivolous lawsuits, due process ensures the protection of innocent individuals like Adams. Rajkumar emphasized Adams’ track record as a champion for justice and equality, affirming her belief in his character amidst the unfolding legal battle.
