LATUR, MAHARASHTRA (Diya TV)- Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living Foundation claimed that the 18 year old Malala Yousafzai “did nothing” to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who was in Latur, Maharashtra to see the drought conditions in that area held a press conference clarifying the media about him winning the Nobel Peace Prize. “Nowadays, there is no value to the Nobel Prize. When you award it to a 16 year-old girl who hasn’t done anything, what value is left? It has become a political prize”, said the spiritual leader.
Malala Yousafzai, who was recognized for her courage and for standing up for girls right to education in Pakistan was shot to by the Taliban. She is now an activist and a strong voice for the advocacy of girls right to education. While contributing to the society mainly for human rights advocacy for education in her native, Swat valley, the young lady has crossed many hardships.
The Spiritual guru continued saying that many people asked him “to do certain things” that would fetch him the prestigious award, but he claims that he refused to do so as he did not want to get drawn into the “political play”.
Shankar’s the Art of Living Foundation has since denied that the spiritual guru said he was offered a Nobel Peace Prize, insisting that the media had “misquoted” him. According to a spokesperson for the organization, Shankar said: “What will I do with a prize? We have been doing social work for years now and it has not been for prizes. When good work is done, people think it is for a prize.”
