JAIPUR, India (Diya TV) — Kerala’s Kaziah Liz Mejo, 19, has won the Miss Universe India 2026 crown after a closely contested finale in Jaipur on Aug. 23. She beat 50 other contestants from across the country to claim the national title.
Kaziah comes from Mavelikkara in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. She combines her studies with a growing career in modeling. Before winning the national title, she represented India at Miss Teen International 2025. She finished as the first runner-up in that competition. She later won the Miss Universe Kerala title.
Kaziah said winning the crown at 19 brings both happiness and responsibility. She also said the victory has special meaning because she hopes to bring the first Miss Universe crown to Kerala.
“I won this crown at the age of 19,” Kaziah said. She described the moment as an opportunity of a lifetime and expressed gratitude for the chance to represent India internationally.
Kaziah also credited her faith for her success. She said she believes God helped guide her toward her purpose from a young age. At the same time, she encouraged young people to recognize their own progress and hard work.
Her ambitions extend beyond beauty pageants. Kaziah wants to build her modeling career and eventually enter the Indian film industry. She hopes to carry India’s name to international audiences through both fields.
Kaziah also shared her vision for her role as Miss Universe India 2026. She wants to highlight India’s diversity, culture, and talent. In addition, she hopes to show the world the confidence and strength of India’s younger generation.
Kaziah also offered advice to young women who want to enter modeling. She acknowledged that building a career in the industry can prove difficult. However, she urged aspiring models to stay determined and continue moving forward.
She encouraged young Indians to stay connected to their roots. She also called on them to carry pride in the Indian tricolor wherever they go. According to Kaziah, talent and determination can help young people achieve their goals.
The new Miss Universe India also spoke about Gen-Z activism. She discussed recent protests in Delhi and Jharkhand and said she feels proud of her generation.
Kaziah said young people once faced criticism for speaking openly. However, she sees that outspoken nature as a strength. She believes young voices can help bring meaningful change.
With the national crown now secured, Kaziah will prepare for the international Miss Universe competition. She will represent India while continuing her studies and modeling work
