SURREY, Canada (Diya TV) — Indian actor-comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey was hit by gunfire for the second time in less than a month, police said Wednesday.

The latest attack took place around 4:40 a.m. on Aug. 7 outside Kap’s Café, located in the 8400 block of 120 Street in the Newton neighborhood. Surrey Police Service (SPS) said multiple shots struck the building and shattered windows. Staff members inside were unharmed.

The café was also targeted in a shooting on July 10, just a week after its grand opening on July 3. In that incident, police reported at least a dozen rounds fired into the front windows around 1:50 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Both incidents are now under investigation by the SPS Frontline Investigative Support Team. Officers from the Delta Police Department also responded to the Aug. 7 shooting.

In a statement after the latest shooting, Kap’s Café thanked local leaders and police for their support. “We are truly honoured to have @themayorofsurrey, members of @surreypoliceservice, and other respected officials visit @thekapscafe_. Your support and presence mean a lot to us and to the community we serve,” the café said in a post on social media.

The café is part of Sharma’s “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma” hospitality chain, which marked its Canadian debut last month.

Following the Aug. 7 shooting, an unverified social media post attributed to gangster Goldy Dhillon claimed responsibility. Dhillon, who says he is linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, alleged the attack happened because the café’s owner did not answer a phone call. The post warned of further action.

Police have not confirmed the authenticity of the claim and have not identified a motive.

After the July 10 attack, Harjit Singh Laddi a Germany-based operative of the banned Babbar Khalsa International also claimed responsibility. Laddi is wanted by India’s National Investigation Agency. Authorities said his statement was also unverified.

SPS said it is actively investigating both shootings and urged anyone with information to come forward. “While it appears multiple shots caused damage to the windows and building, fortunately, the staff on premises were uninjured,” SPS noted in a news release.

Police have not said whether they believe the two shootings are connected or if the suspects are linked.

The attacks have raised concerns about public safety in the Newton neighborhood. While the café remains open, the repeated violence has put a spotlight on gang-related threats in the region. Surrey police have increased patrols in the area and are working with local businesses to improve security.

Authorities are also monitoring online threats and gang activity, particularly posts linked to organized crime groups. Both the Bishnoi gang and Babbar Khalsa International are known to be active internationally, and their alleged involvement in local incidents is being closely examined.

Kapil Sharma is one of India’s most popular entertainers, known for his television comedy shows and live performances. His decision to open a café in Surrey was seen as a nod to the city’s large South Asian community.

Kap’s Café offers Indian food, coffee, and desserts, aiming to provide a community gathering space. Despite the recent violence, supporters continue to visit the café and share messages of solidarity online.

SPS is urging witnesses or anyone with surveillance footage to contact investigators. Authorities have not announced any arrests or identified suspects. They said more updates will be provided as the investigation moves forward.
