NEW ORLEANS, La. (Diya TV) — Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season, the first quarterback in the Bills franchise’s history to be honored. Allen was awarded 27 first-place votes, barely surpassing Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who received 23 first-place votes.
Throughout the season, Allen compiled 4,269 yards and 41 touchdowns and had a career-low eight turnovers. Notably, he became the first player in NFL history to have five consecutive seasons with at least 40 total touchdowns.
With Allen at the helm, the Bills went 13-4, capturing their fifth consecutive AFC East divisional title. This achievement is noteworthy given the offseason departures of top receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. Allen improvised by dispersing the ball to new players, including veterans Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and rookie Keon Coleman.
At the NFL Honors ceremony held at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, Allen expressed gratitude to the Bills organization. He discussed his journey to this point since being drafted seven years earlier. He emphasized the team aspect of the award, stating, “I know this is an individual award and it says Most Valuable Player on it, but I think it’s derived from team success, and I love my team.”
Allen’s MVP award places him alongside former Bills running backs Thurman Thomas (1991) and O.J. Simpson (1973) as the only players in Bills history to be so recognized.
As much as the individual awards, Allen keeps looking to team success. The Bills’ season ended with a close defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, and Allen has been committed to taking Buffalo to a Super Bowl win next season.
