WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington, D.C., covering a range of regional and global issues amid the deepening of bilateral strategic cooperation. The two leaders met against the backdrop of rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific and shared interest in security issues.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, issues like defense cooperation, technological collaborations, and regional security trends in the Indo-Pacific figured during the talks held by Jaishankar with Sullivan. Both expressed commitment to regional stability and security where the presence of China has been a challenge both for India and for the United States.
In the meeting, Jaishankar reminded everyone that India would further increase defense and security ties with the U.S. with even greater intensity, given shared interests in counterterrorism, cyber defense, and maritime security. Both leaders touched on the defense exercises the two nations were scheduled to hold, a sign of the deepening military cooperation between them.
“The U.S.-India partnership has been evolving rapidly, and our discussions today reaffirm the significance of this relationship in addressing the challenges we face, both regionally and globally,” Jaishankar said after the meeting. “We discussed key areas of cooperation, including technology, economic resilience, and the Indo-Pacific.”
The meeting also discussed the global problems, including the situation in Ukraine, in the Middle East, and the function of international institutions in managing these crises. Jaishankar and Sullivan once again reiterated that they believe in a rules-based order and that diplomacy is required to solve conflicts around the world.
Sullivan, in a statement after the meeting, stressed that the U.S.-India relationship is a crucial component of global security and stability. “India is a critical partner in the Indo-Pacific and beyond, and our discussions today reflected our shared vision for a secure and prosperous region,” Sullivan said.
They also touched upon the G20 Summit, which India would be hosting in 2025. India and the U.S. have worked together closely on global issues, including climate change, sustainable development, and technological cooperation, within the framework of the G20.
Jaishankar’s visit to Washington followed a series of high-level engagements between Indian and U.S. officials in recent months, underscoring the growing importance of the U.S.-India partnership. The two nations have seen closer collaboration on issues ranging from defense and technology to health and climate change, particularly since India’s role as a key player in the Indo-Pacific continues to expand.
