NEW YORK (Diya TV) – The Indian Consulate in New York has launched a new platform to help Indian students find internship opportunities in the United States. This initiative aims to support Indian students within the Consulate’s jurisdiction by providing direct access to companies offering internships.

The Consulate announced the launch on X, stating, “As part of the initiative to support Indian students in its jurisdiction, @IndiainNewYork has developed a platform for Indian Students to find internship opportunities at companies in the USA.”

This platform connects Indian students with various Indian and American companies willing to consider deserving candidates for internships. Students can apply directly through the portal, as the Consulate does not play a role in the selection process.

Some of the companies participating in this initiative include Google, TCS, Goldman Sachs, NVIDIA, Stripe, Lyft, and GAVS Technology. The new portal also provides information on experts offering psychological and healthcare advice to Indian students. Additionally, it offers access to legal experts and attorneys across ten states under the Consulate’s jurisdiction for legal assistance or guidance.

Despite a challenging job market in the US, this new resource aims to provide valuable opportunities for Indian students. In 2023, the number of Indian students studying in the US reached a record high of 268,923, a 36% increase from the previous year. According to the Oxford International Student Global Mobility Index report, 69% of Indian students prefer the US over the UK for studying abroad.

New York, home to over 32,000 Indian students, has seen various initiatives to support this growing population. One such initiative is an open house for Indian students held every 2nd and 4th Friday of each month, where Consulate officials meet with students to address their concerns.

In addition to the internship portal, the Indian Consulate in New York continues to support Indian students and professionals, who make up 25% of the over one million international students in the US. The Open Doors Report noted a 35% increase in Indian students in the US for the academic year 2022-23, reflecting a growing trend of Indian students seeking higher education and career opportunities in America.
