WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — A bill aimed at bringing awareness to heart disease in the South Asian community passed in Congress. It’s aimed at getting more grants and support for research, primarily among South Asian communities in the United States. The World Health Organization says South Asians make up 25 percent of the global population but 50 percent of cardiovascular deaths. The bill was sponsored by Indian American Representative Pramila Jayapal.
UC Santa Cruz and venture capital firm TiE Global are partnering up to create more university-based entrepreneurs from across the world, empowering them with resources and mentors. TiE Global’s Chairman is Indian American BJ Arun and says he’s excited to help more ideas become invest ready startups.
Canadian police have arrested and charged two men with the murder of Ripudaman Singh Malik, a Sikh businessman who was acquitted in connection with the 1985 Air India bombing that killed more than 300 people. Authorities say it appears targeted but the motive still remains unclear.
