WASHINGTON (Diya TV)  — Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is getting criticism from a slew of Democrats after he canceled a scheduled meeting in Washington with the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Committee Chair Eliot Engel insisted Seattle Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal should attend, even though she is not a member of that committee, leading Jaishankar to cancel. Jayapal, who is a native of India, is currently sponsoring a resolution in the House urging India to change their approach on Kashmir. Strong words of support for Jayapal came from fellow Democrats Kamala Harris, as well as Presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Sanders and Warren were among the seven Democrats who squared off in that party’s latest debate in Los Angeles. Andrew Yang noted he was the last remaining candidate of color on the debate stage, after Kamala Harris ended her campaign, Cory Booker fell short of qualifying and Tulsi Gabbard chose not to attend. Pakistani-American journalist Amna Nawaz of PBS became the first-ever Asian American and Muslim American moderator of a Presidential debate.
