53d68fa36b962SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Jagruti Panwala has been selected as the new secretary of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association, making her the first female elected to the position since the organization’s inception nearly three decades ago.

Additionally, she in now in line to become the organization’s first female chairwoman in 2019, according to a report from Hospitalitynet. The organization’s all-volunteer board of 36 members come from those who own hotels around the nation.

Officers hold their posts for one year after being elected secretary — the organization is comprised of officers serving as secretary, treasurer, vice chairman and chairman. Panwala won a contested election for secretary over two male counterparts.

She will serve as secretary for 2016-17, and serve as the organization’s treasurer during her next term. Panwala was born in Surat, India, and her family arrived in the states in 1988. Panwala graduated from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania with honors and degrees in finance and economics.

Since 1998, she has operated a successful financial services practice, serving as owner and president of Wealth Protection Strategies. Her company focuses on asset protection, wealth transfer and life insurance solutions. Additionally, she owns several hotels, and has invested several years of her life as both an administrator and owner of hotels.
