GREENSBORO, N.C. (Diya TV) — A federal judge in North Carolina is temporarily blocking the Department of Homeland Security from enforcing a new policy on deportation and penalization of students who overstayed their visas while the case is still pending in court. It’s a major relief for the moment to many Indian students who may have been caught off-guard by the government’s new approach, which has lasting consequences.

Relief efforts, including from Indian American organizations, are underway to aid victims of Cyclone Fani, the Category 4 storm that devastated parts of India’s East Coast. The cyclone claimed 15 lives in India and 57 lives in Bangladesh.

More than 12,000 donations in excess of $600,000 has been raised to help 13 year old Dhriti Narayan recover from injuries that have left her clinging to life. Dhriti is still in a coma in intensive care after being intentionally struck down while walking in a crosswalk with her family & others. The suspect of the crime, Isaiah Peoples, is being held without bail on eight counts of attempted murder.

And Pakistani American Sharmeen Khan joined former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign as Deputy Research Director.
