WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — President Trump announced the Food and Drug Administration granted an emergency use authorization for Gilead Sciences’ drug Remdesivir to treat COVID-19. Gilead is donating 1.5 million vials of Remdesivir. In clinical trials led by a team of investigators, including an Indian-American physician, coronavirus patients have shown positive results from taking Remdesivir. Though researchers note it’s not seen as a total solution yet to cure the virus.
The biggest coronavirus lockdown in the world will continue for at least two more weeks. India announced their five week shelter in place will now go through May 18th. It’s the second extension by Prime Minister Modi. While testing is not widespread, India says there are more than 25,000 active cases of COVID-19, with more than 1,100 deaths.
