AUSTIN, Texas (Diya TV) — Elon Musk threatened Monday to launch a new political party if Congress passes what he calls President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” intensifying his opposition to the sweeping domestic policy legislation.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO said on his social media platform X that he would create the “America Party” the day after the bill becomes law. Musk called the bill “insane” and claimed it would add trillions to the national debt while harming the renewable energy industry.
“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people have a VOICE,” Musk wrote.
Musk, one of the world’s richest individuals, said he will use his fortune to oppose any Republican who votes for the bill.
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” he posted. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
His latest comments came as the Senate moved closer to a final vote on the legislation. Musk criticized members of the House Freedom Caucus, tagging Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Andy Harris of Maryland in a post that accused them of abandoning conservative values.
“How can you call yourself the Freedom Caucus if you vote for a DEBT SLAVERY bill with the biggest debt ceiling increase in history?” Musk asked.
Musk and Trump were once political allies. Musk even held an advisory role in the Trump administration and worked closely with the president’s Domestic Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE). But tensions have grown since Musk stepped down from that role in late May. Their relationship seemed to improve briefly in early June. However, the conflict reignited when Musk resumed criticizing the bill over the weekend, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
Trump responded during a Sunday interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, defending the bill as a plan that cuts taxes and improves border security. He also described Musk as a “wonderful guy,” but said some of his remarks were “not appropriate.”
Musk has said the bill damages the renewable energy sector and increases support for outdated industries. He claimed it reverses the spending reforms pushed by DOGE. Musk has previously hinted at forming a new political party. Earlier this month, he ran a poll on X asking users whether it was time to start a new party that represents the “80% in the middle.” Over 80% of respondents said yes.
On Monday, Musk said the passage of the bill makes it “obvious” that the U.S. is controlled by what he mocked as the “PORKY PIG PARTY.”
“Time for a new political party that cares about the people,” he wrote.
Musk had earlier announced plans to reduce his political donations. It’s unclear whether his recent comments mean he plans to restart political spending to support this new effort.
Musk’s entry into the political arena could disrupt both major parties. His high profile, large following on X, and massive financial resources make him a powerful voice. Analysts say a third-party challenge could shake up the 2024 election cycle, especially among independent voters.
While Musk has not announced any specific candidates or policies for the “America Party,” his criticism of the current political system is clear. He believes both Democrats and Republicans have failed to control spending and protect future-focused industries.
As Congress prepares to vote, all eyes will be on Musk’s next move.
