WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Elon Musk announced the reinstatement of Marko Elez, a 25-year-old staffer from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), who resigned after reports linked him to racist social media posts. Musk declared on X, formerly Twitter, “He will be brought back. To err is human, to forgive divine.”
Elez’s resignation follows a Wall Street Journal investigation into his connections with a now-deleted account filled with derogatory remarks, among them “Normalize Indian hate” and “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity.”
Vice President JD Vance supported Elez’s return, saying, “I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life.” Vance, whose wife is of Indian descent, acknowledged his disagreement with some of Elez’s posts but emphasized the importance of forgiveness.
President Trump endorsed Vance’s stance, saying, “I’m with the Vice President.”
The decision to rehire Elez has sparked a large debate. Critics argue that reinstating him without a public apology undermines accountability, while supporters contend that individuals should not face lifelong consequences for past mistakes.
Elez’s initial resignation also raised concerns due to his access to sensitive Treasury Department systems. A federal judge recently restricted DOGE’s access to Treasury payments following a lawsuit by 19 Democratic state attorneys general.
