Rajesh Kumar Singla, 36, of Milpitas, was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual assault at a Walnut Creek outpatient office.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (Diya TV) — An Indian American physician at a John Muir outpatient center was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual assault on a female patient, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office.

Rajesh Kumar Singla, 36, of Milpitas, was arrested by sheriff’s Special Victims Unit detectives on multiple counts of sexual assault. Singla is a practicing family medicine doctor who works for the John Muir Health outpatient office at 1450 Treat Blvd.

A female patient of Singla’s complained of the allegations to the sheriff earlier this month. Following an investigation, detectives arrested Singla without incident at his office after receiving an arrest warrant. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on two counts of sexual battery, two counts of indecent exposure, and one count of attempted oral copulation.

Officials fro John Muir issued a statement Tuesday regarding Singla’s arrest, saying he had worked there a little less than two years and that he was placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We are shocked and saddened by the arrest of Dr. Rajesh Singla, a family medicine physician practicing at our outpatient center at 1450 Treat. The care and safety of our patients is always our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department on their ongoing investigation.”

He was being held in lieu of $130,000 bail, Singla bailed out early Tuesday morning.
