SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Gurbaksh Chahal, an Indian-American internet entrepreneur and writer, kicked his former girlfriend 10 times during a 2014 incident, the same time he was on probation for a conviction of domestic violence, a San Francisco police officer testified in court on Friday.
Officer Jose Hernandez’s testimony came during a hearing in which prosecutors were seeking to revoke the 33-year-old millionaire’s probation for an earlier attack on a different woman in his penthouse San Francisco apartment. Friends and family of Chahal, once dubbed one of America’s most eligible bachelors, packed the outside of the San Francisco Superior Courthouse to protest the proposed revocation, and brought their sentiments inside once the hearing began.
“It’s unfair. He has already paid the price,” said Chahal’s 72-year-old father. “I’ve been watching this play out for three years.”
Chahal was charged with 47 counts of felony domestic violence and assault in 2013 for an Aug. 5, 2013 attack on his then-girlfriend inside of his penthouse at 301 Main St. A Superior Court judge later ruled a 30-minute video which captured the violent attack was inadmissible because police had seized it illegally. Chahal ultimately pleaded to two misdemeanor charges of battery and domestic violence in 2014, and placed on probation.
Shortly after, Chahal began dating a then-23-year-old South Korean woman he met in Las Vegas, and in September of 2014, the two of them were involved in an altercation.
According to Hernandez’s testimony, the woman told him Chahal had kicked her 10 to 12 times on his bed around 4 a.m. after the two of them had been drinking. She immediately called 911, but hung up the phone and called back to say the initial dial had been a mistake. She has since returned to South Korea, and has not returned to testify in the prosecution’s motion to revoke Chahal’s probation.
Judge Tracie L. Brown made no ruling Friday, and has yet to ultimately decide if the video evidence that was tossed in the 2013 domestic violence case can be admitted in the probation hearing.
Chahal’s court appearance Friday was a circus before he even entered the courtroom — his bodyguards shoved a group of reporters and photographers gathered in a hallway outside of the courtroom. After, Chahal took to his Twitter account, personally attacking what he believes to be the corruption of San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon.
