ROCKVILLE, Md. (Diya TV) — The DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) is set to return this September with its 14th edition, bringing a bold mix of independent films, premieres, and cultural events to audiences in the Washington, D.C., area and beyond. The festival will run Sept. 5–7 in person at Regal Rockville Center in Maryland, followed by a virtual program from Sept. 8–30. This hybrid format allows film lovers across the globe to experience the event. Organizers announced the details on Aug. 28.
DCSAFF 2025 features 54 films from 12 countries, presented in 14 languages. The selection includes 10 premieres, 12 documentaries, and 15 films directed by women. The lineup reflects the festival’s mission to highlight diverse and authentic voices from the South Asian diaspora. Founded to showcase independent cinema, DCSAFF has become one of the most important cultural events for South Asian films in North America. The festival provides a space for filmmakers to share stories that are both traditional and modern.

This year’s festival will open with Main Actor Nahin Hoon and conclude with Pyre. Both films are highly anticipated and expected to spark discussion among cinephiles. As part of a tribute to the late filmmaker Shyam Benegal, DCSAFF will host a special screening of Manthan. The film, widely regarded as a classic, has been newly restored from 35 mm to 4K. This restoration offers audiences the chance to revisit Benegal’s groundbreaking work in a new format.
The festival is more than just film showings. Attendees will have opportunities to learn from the industry through two exclusive masterclasses led by acclaimed professionals. These sessions aim to provide insights into filmmaking and storytelling from a South Asian perspective.
On Sept. 5, the festival will host a red-carpet event at 6:30 p.m. EST. The evening will welcome prominent guests, including veteran actor Shishir Sharma and rising star Chitrangada Satarupa. Directors Vinod Kapri, Aditya Kripalani, Hariharan Krishnan, Jayajose Raj, and Reshmi Mitra are also expected to attend. In addition, several filmmakers and actors from the short film and documentary circuit will join the event, creating space for artistic exchange and collaboration.
