NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminded Russian President Vladimir Putin that to resolve conflicts, peaceful ways are the path forward. Modi met with Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit and once again confirmed India’s position on the war and demanded dialogue as a tool to resolve disputes.

India’s neutrality on the conflict, which started last February, has drawn particular attention. Modi made this comment at a time when tension between Russia and Ukraine has increased significantly since the beginning of the war.

In the discussions, Modi said, “Today’s epoch is not that of war. We need to find ways so our differences are resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.” Commenting on his remarks, it can be said that India places immense focus on diplomacy and dialogue while strengthening its commitment towards peace and stability in the region. Nowadays its nation has gained great influence on the global front.

Modi’s voice for peace would find a very important place considering how India sits at the table when international players are being considered. The Prime Minister has always advocated peaceful resolution of global conflicts, reinforcing India’s image as one who acts in the name of peace.

During the discussions, Modi also indicated India’s willingness to contribute towards humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. India has earlier sent aid to the war-ravaged nation including medical supplies and food assistance, thus reflecting its commitment towards people affected by the conflict.

Putin accepted Modi’s feelings and made it clear that he was ready to step into further discussion to understand both of their concerns. He once again reiterated Russia’s view of the situation related to Ukraine and also expressed his concern over the mutual thinking.

The encounter between Modi and Putin is taking place within the complex geopolitical context, where Western countries have imposed sanctions on Russia and call for increasing their support towards Ukraine. New Delhi, however, has rather artfully balanced calling for remaining non-aligned with both of them while trying to develop relationships with Moscow as well as the Western powers.

Analysts believe that Modi’s statement can be interpreted as India’s intent to play a proactive role in initiating discussion with Russia and Ukraine. Being a part of other international forums such as G20 and BRICS, India holds strategic and pivotal positions from where it can advocate peaceful resolutions over various international platforms.

The discussion with Putin also throws light on the challenges faced by international diplomacy at this war-torn time. The world continues to watch whether India’s relations will be any catalyst toward stability and peace in the disturbed regions.
