NEW DELHI (Diya TV ) — Former Union minister Smriti Irani has returned to a key role in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national organization. The BJP on Monday appointed Irani as a national general secretary as part of a major reshuffle under party president Nitin Nabin.

Irani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nabin after the announcement. She said the BJP had given an ordinary party worker an important responsibility. She also pledged to serve the organization under Modi’s guidance and Nabin’s leadership.

The appointment marks a significant return for Irani. She served as a Union minister and represented Amethi in the Lok Sabha. However, she lost the Amethi seat in the 2024 general election.

Irani joins Biplab Kumar Deb, Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde, Gajendra Patel, Satish Poonia, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia as national general secretaries. BL Santhosh will continue as national general secretary (organization).

The reshuffle also gives important positions to several former chief ministers and senior leaders. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat and former BJP general secretary Ram Madhav have been named national vice presidents. Baijayant Panda, D. Purandeshwari and several other leaders also received the post.

The party has appointed 13 national vice presidents. Women hold six of those positions, according to the details provided by the BJP. The wider team also includes 10 women and six leaders from minority communities, highlighting the party’s effort to broaden representation.

The BJP has also announced 16 national secretaries. The group includes Kavita Patidar, K. Surendran, Bhola Singh, Pradip Varma, Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel, Sandeep Pathak, Phangnon Konyak, Sangeeta Yadav, Anil Antony, M. Venkateshan, Manoj Tigga, Siddharth Shambhu, Swadesh Singh, Mriganka Deo Barman, Rohan Gupta and Jai Prakash.

Meanwhile, Anil Baluni will continue as the party’s media convenor. Ashish Usha Agrawal, Pradeep Bhandari and Siddharth Yadav will serve as co-convenors. Deepak Mhaske will handle the BJP’s social media operations.

The party has also made changes in its youth and women’s wings. Gujarat lawmaker Hemang Joshi will lead the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Roop Kumari Choudhary will oversee the Mahila Morcha.

Piyush Goyal will continue as the BJP’s national treasurer. Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh has also received a central office responsibility.

The BJP said the new team will focus on strengthening the organization and advancing its vision of a “Viksit Bharat.” Irani also said the team would remain committed to the principle of “Nation First.”

The changes also come as the BJP prepares for several important state elections and the next national political cycle.
