PEEL REGION, Canada (Diya TV) — Between July and September 2024, a multi-week, complex operation by the Specialized Enforcement Bureau of Peel Regional Police was conducted on a local drug trafficking organization that had been operating throughout the Region of Peel and into the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
In September, investigators partnered with the Waterloo Regional Police, York Regional Police, and RCMP to execute five residential search warrants across the GTA. The operation uncovered significant items, including 11 firearms, 32 prohibited magazines, over 900 rounds of ammunition, 53 Glock selector switches, and a quantity of illegal drugs. Five individuals were arrested, laying close to 160 charges as part of the investigation.
Chief Nishan Duraiappah noted that illegal guns remain a danger and emphasized that, “The easy availability of illegal guns continues to be an immediate and grave threat to the safety of our community. Violent criminals are taking advantage of this access, feeding into a deadly cycle of crime that threatens every citizen.” He thanked his officers for their commitment and acknowledged that the operation had already resulted in record-breaking investigations and arrests connected to violent crimes during 2024.
Of the many detainees, one is particularly highlighted: 20-year-old Navdeep Nagra of Brampton, charged with offenses that include unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm. His outstanding release order was concerning previous weapon-related charges against him.
Ravneet Nagra, 22, of Brampton faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and possessing a cocked firearm. Another is Ranveer Araich, 20, who also has the same offenses, which include possessing proceeds of crime.
Another Brampton individual, Pavneet Nahal, is also being charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and breach of a release order. Nahal was on release order when he was taken into custody for his drugs-related offenses.
The fifth arrestee is a 61-year-old Narinder Nagra who has been charged with both unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an ammunition. Narinder Nagra was released on conditions and later appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
All the arrestees appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton but after being detained for hearings for bail.
