MIAMI (Diya TV) — 10 Democrats hit the stage to court support for their campaigns in the first debate of the season, another milestone in what will be a marathon 2020 election cycle.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk about security challenges in the Indo-Pacific. The balancing act between security and economic interests is also a challenge after President Trump asked India to withdraw retaliatory tariffs that New Delhi imposed this month, calling the duties “unacceptable.”

The family of Kiran Pabla, a 24-year-old Indian American student killed in a hit-and-run accident by two drivers who were drag racing in 2015, will receive a $750,000 settlement from the city of San Jose. The money comes with a pledge that the city will improve guardrail safety.

After furniture retailer Wayfair sold beds to furnish detention centers at the border, more than 500 of their employees signed a petition to cease all business with border camps. When Indian American CEO Niraj Shah said no, employees walked out and are asking Wayfair to donate all profits made from the sale to RAICES, a non-profit that helps refugees.

The Congressional Budget Office says America’s federal debt is projected to reach “unprecedented levels” over the next 30 years if current tax laws prevail. 

Currently, the nation’s level of debt is the highest level since shortly after World War II.
