NEW DELHI (Diya TV) — India’ s Covid-19 infection rates are starting to consistently drop each day.  The ministry of health reported a little more than 60,000 cases in the past 24 hours. That’s a dramatic decrease from the peak of more than 400,000 cases in one day just a few months ago. 

India has also decided to partially open the Taj Mahal to visitors. And as restrictions ease, several shops, malls, and restaurants have started to reopen in multiple cities this week. but Authorities continue to advise mask wearing and social distancing.

Vice President Kamala Harris hosted a dinner party for a bipartisan group of female senators at her official Washington, DC residence. 16 Democrats and eight Republicans. Vice President Harris is doing this against the backdrop of intense negotiations over President Biden’s agenda in Congress and a border crisis raging on her watch.

And one of the fiercest critics of Big Tech companies like Apple and Amazon is now leading the Federal Trade Commission.  Lina Khan will be tasked with voting on enforcement matters in areas of both competition and consumer protection. the 32 year old South Asian will be the youngest person to ever lead the agency.

Indian student in Ohio dies in car crash | Diya TV News

CLEVELAND (Diya TV) — A student from India is dead following a head on car crash in Ohio. 22 year old Chiru Sai Narendruni was traveling with a group of friends in a car when it collided with another vehicle and he was killed on the spot. Another female in his car suffered critical injuries and is in a coma.

As the Theranos fraud trial continues, the blood testing company’s founder Elizabeth Holmes claims she was the victim of sexual and mental abuse by her former boyfriend, Indian American Ramesh Balwani. In court papers, her lawyers have argued that the alleged abuse interfered with Holmes’ ability to think clearly during the time of the crimes charged by federal prosecutors.

Once again India is the fastest growing economy in the world. The gross domestic product grew by more than 8 percent in the latest quarter, fueled in part by the post pandemic recovery and personal spending.

WASHINGTON DC (Diya TV) — India and the United States will re-launch the Trade Policy Forum to resolve trade and investment issues between the two countries. Officials say on both sides say they have realized the need for diversifying critical supply chains. India is trying to leverage its competitive advantage in terms of cost, skilled manpower, and huge domestic market, while America continues to tout it’s innovation and investment prowess. 

70 years later a French town is remembering the 74,000 Indian soldiers who died in World War I in Europe. Under British rule at the time, they were deployed to a foreign land to help fight in the war. Their contributions and sacrifices are finally being remembered. 

The Louisiana Association of Business Industry has just awarded Indian American Ajay Patel with the 2021 Company of the Year Award. Patel owns and operates several area McDonald’s franchises in Central and Southwest Louisiana and has been honored many times before for his contributions to the community.

SACRAMENTO (Diya TV) — The first U.S. case of the Omicron coronavirus variant has been identified in California. During a White House news briefing, Dr. Anthony Fauci said the case was in an individual who traveled from South Africa on November 22 and tested positive for Covid-19 on November 29. That individual is self-quarantining and close contacts have tested negative for the coronavirus so far. The person was fully vaccinated and is experiencing “mild symptoms, and is also improving.

Cosmetics giant Nykaa and it’s recent initial public offering has made Falguni Nayar the richest self made woman billionaire in India. Along with her drive and business acumen, she being praised for also doing it as a 58 year old entrepreneur. Nykaa joins a growing list of red hot startups to recently go public in India.
