Jolly Joseph held for serial killings of her family in South India

Koodathai, India (Diya TV)  — A 47 year old mother of two in Kerala is being held on suspicion of using cyanide to murder at least six of her own family members, including her husband and in-laws. Jolly Joseph is behind bars as police continue their investigation into the serial killings. Police and neighbors allege after the deaths of her immediate family, years later, Jolly killed the wife and child of a man she went on to marry.

India’s Commerce minister Piyush Goyal will meet US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer once again this week as the U.S. and India continue bilateral trade negotiations. These talks come days after India exited a China-backed trade agreement that covered much of Asia, citing domestic concerns.

Just a couple of months after the ‘Howdy Modi’ event that brought India and the U.S. together in a manner we’ve never seen before, President Trump told reporters he does plan to visit India soon, after Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to him in Houston.

Kshama Sawant was reelected to Seattle’s City Council, despite Amazon spending $500,000 to back her opponent. Sawant, a self-proclaimed socialist, ran on an agenda to deal with Seattle’s growing gentrification, homelessness and a lack of affordable housing

Indian student in Ohio dies in car crash | Diya TV News

CLEVELAND (Diya TV) — A student from India is dead following a head on car crash in Ohio. 22 year old Chiru Sai Narendruni was traveling with a group of friends in a car when it collided with another vehicle and he was killed on the spot. Another female in his car suffered critical injuries and is in a coma.

As the Theranos fraud trial continues, the blood testing company’s founder Elizabeth Holmes claims she was the victim of sexual and mental abuse by her former boyfriend, Indian American Ramesh Balwani. In court papers, her lawyers have argued that the alleged abuse interfered with Holmes’ ability to think clearly during the time of the crimes charged by federal prosecutors.

Once again India is the fastest growing economy in the world. The gross domestic product grew by more than 8 percent in the latest quarter, fueled in part by the post pandemic recovery and personal spending.

WASHINGTON DC (Diya TV) — India and the United States will re-launch the Trade Policy Forum to resolve trade and investment issues between the two countries. Officials say on both sides say they have realized the need for diversifying critical supply chains. India is trying to leverage its competitive advantage in terms of cost, skilled manpower, and huge domestic market, while America continues to tout it’s innovation and investment prowess. 

70 years later a French town is remembering the 74,000 Indian soldiers who died in World War I in Europe. Under British rule at the time, they were deployed to a foreign land to help fight in the war. Their contributions and sacrifices are finally being remembered. 

The Louisiana Association of Business Industry has just awarded Indian American Ajay Patel with the 2021 Company of the Year Award. Patel owns and operates several area McDonald’s franchises in Central and Southwest Louisiana and has been honored many times before for his contributions to the community.

SACRAMENTO (Diya TV) — The first U.S. case of the Omicron coronavirus variant has been identified in California. During a White House news briefing, Dr. Anthony Fauci said the case was in an individual who traveled from South Africa on November 22 and tested positive for Covid-19 on November 29. That individual is self-quarantining and close contacts have tested negative for the coronavirus so far. The person was fully vaccinated and is experiencing “mild symptoms, and is also improving.

Cosmetics giant Nykaa and it’s recent initial public offering has made Falguni Nayar the richest self made woman billionaire in India. Along with her drive and business acumen, she being praised for also doing it as a 58 year old entrepreneur. Nykaa joins a growing list of red hot startups to recently go public in India.
