WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Indian American actor and comedian Aziz Ansari has been selected by the Smithsonian Institution to receive the 2016 American Ingenuity Award.

He was selected in the performing arts category for his work on the Netflix hit series, “Master of None.”

Other award winners selected this year include, Jeff Bezos, who founded; “space archaeologist” Sarah Parcak, who finds ancient sites using satellites; and Christopher Gray, whose Scholly app matches students to scholarships. Some of the honorees include director David Lynch, who is bringing meditation to inner-city schools; and the band OK Go, for a music video shot in zero gravity and directed by band member Damian Kulash with Trish Sie.

The awards honor innovative individuals in nine categories: technology, performing arts, visual arts, life and physical sciences, education, history, social progress and youth achievement.

The winners will be honored during a ceremony held on Dec. 8.
