PHILADELPHIA (Diya TV) — When Khizr Khan and his wife walked up to the podium at this week’s Democratic National Convention, Donald Trump was delivering a speech in Iowa, during which he complained that America was not allowed to waterboard terrorists.
Khan’s son, Humayun, was a captain in the U.S. Army. A vehicle filled with explosives approached his Iraqi compound in 2004, Humayun ordered his men to take cover as he ran toward it. The car exploded, Khan was killed instantly, eventually being awarded the Bronze Star posthumously.
During a 2005 interview with the Washington Post, Khizr said the men his son led, “did not call him Captain Khan. They called him ‘our captain.'”
“We are honored to stand here as the parents of Captain Humayun Khan,” Khan said at the Democratic convention, “and as patriotic American Muslims with undivided loyalty to our country.” He offered stories of his son’s aspirations to become a military lawyer and how Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton referred to his son as “the best of America.”
Then he turned his attention towards the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
