SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Two Indian-American teenagers, who earlier had voiced their support for the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, are now singing a different tune and have created a new initiative named “Hindus for Hillary” as part of the efforts to drive up the Democratic nominees fundraising and social media presence.
Saket Singh, who was once a staunch supporter of the Republican nominee, now believes Clinton would make for the best choice in November’s election.
“This is my final decision. No more changes,” the 18-year-old Singh said. “Now that Bernie Sanders is out, she would get the support of the youths. I was initially a Donald Trump supporter. I went to one of his rallies those are not the values I believe in.”
Singh moved to the U.S. at the age of one with his parents.
A few weeks ago, Singh and his friend Parth Patel, who is in high school, along with a group of other friends, began their efforts in the creation of the Hindus for Hillary group. The group plans to launch a nationwide effort to get out the vote with other Indian Americans in support of Clinton’s campaign, and thus far, their group has 40 full-fledged members.
“I was also a Donald Trump supporter, but Hillary changed my mind,” Patel said. “Donald Trump is more of an extremist and Hillary sides with my social views and social issues,” he added.
“I cannot support Trump’s Muslim ban proposal and his opposition to gun regulation,” Patel said.
